Built in the early M41 by a Meritech clan, these twin ships have rarely been separate throughout their millenium long history. Under Meritech control, these ships fought the Battlefleet Calaxis during the Maritech Wars, but as the tide turned against the Meritech Clans these ships fled the Merates cluster for the Halo Stars in 224.M41, and over the course of several decades meandered into the Koronus Expanse. There, from 307.M41 to 801.M41, the Penitent and Redeemer were piratical vessels preying on Imperial, renegade, and xeno shipping alike, until the ships were captured by the renegade Commodore Atellus, who gave them their current names. These ships then fell into Zephyr hands after the Zephyr Dynasty’s destruction of Atellus’s fleet.
