Krak ultimately is from Footfall, though from late childhood on he was on a ship of the Zephyr Pirate clan, though now this has become the Zephyr Dynasty.
What is the best thing that has happened to this character?
As much as Krak does not like to be working for the Imperium, working under Imperial sanction has made his life must easier by turning the greatest threat to his continued well-being into an ally, even if a somewhat overbearing one.

Krak spends most of his free time drinking or gambling with other crew.

Krak has a habit of constantly looking his shoulder, checking the ceiling above his head, and scanning the entrances of a room, like he expects something nasty to be there. In the grim darkness of the far future, this is probably sensible.
